Förvärv av malaysiskt körkort

Road Transport Department (JPJ) är ansvarig myndighet för hantering av körkort i Malaysia. Den som vill förvärva ett malaysiskt körkort måste genomgå det normala förfarandet för körkort vid malaysisk körskola.Observera att körkortskraven är olika beroende på om du är ny i Malaysia eller om du varit i Malaysia i mer än 12 månader.

Följande information kommer från JPJ:

1) Effective date of the regulation

Q: Does this regulation apply from the official effective date (19 May 2025), or from the date of issuance of the individual’s visa pass?
A: The regulation is effective from 19 May 2025 and applies to foreign nationals who enter Malaysia on or after that date.

• A person entering Malaysia on 19 May 2025 to work may drive using an International Driving Permit (IDP) and a valid Swedish license for up to 12 months from 19 May 2025.
• The 12-month period is NOT a grace period and does not apply to foreign nationals who have already resided in Malaysia for more than 12 months as of 19 May 2025.

2) For existing foreign national residents in Malaysia

Q: What is the status of foreign nationals who have already resided in Malaysia for more than 12 months but have not yet obtained a Malaysian Driving License? Are they permitted to drive in Malaysia using an International Driving Permit while waiting for the process of obtaining a Malaysian license?
A: Foreign nationals who have already resided in Malaysia for more than 12 months and have not obtained a Malaysian driving license are not legally permitted to drive using an IDP.

• If stopped by JPJ, they will be fined RM 300.
• If stopped by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), they may receive a compound fine and be required to either appear in court or settle the fine before the court date.

Ambassaden har upphört med att översätta körkort. Detta då ambassaden inte har möjlighet att kontrollera körkortets faktiska giltighet. Det är endast Transportstyrelsen i Sverige som kan intyga ett körkorts giltighet.
