Marriages in the Philippines

The Embassy in Manila and the Swedish Honorary Consulate in Cebu do not perform or officiate marriages. Swedish nationals who want to get married in the Philippines need to contact local authorities. The Philippine Government legally requires foreigners intending to get married in the Philippines to submit a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage issued by the foreigner’s respective embassy. You can request this Certificate from the Embassy of Sweden in Manila.

Application needs to be made in person and the required documents needs to be brought in original to the Embassy. The Certificate can be issued on the same day as the application.

The set of requirements depend on where the Swedish applicant legally resides. 

Requirements for Swedish citizens living in Sweden:

  • valid Swedish passport
  • original Marriage License issued by the Swedish Tax Agency

Swedish citizens registered in another country:

  • valid Swedish passport
  • Personbevis issued by Skatteverket showing the current foreign address (must be no more than three (3) months old)
  • original Marriage License issued by the Swedish Embassy in the country of residence

Swedish citizens living in the Philippines:

  • a valid Swedish passport
  • original valid Philippine residence card
  • a completed Marriage certificate – Application and declaration (SKV 7881) | Tax 
  • Personbevis issued by Skatteverket showing the current Philippine address (must be no more than three (3) months old)
  • original CENOMAR issued no more than 3 months from date of appointment
  • original or copy of passport of intended spouse

Application fee

The application costs the equivalent of 200 Swedish kronor. You pay in Philippine pesos in cash at the same time you submit the application. A table of fees in local currency is available: Consular Fees (as of Jan 2026)

    Register the marriage abroad in Sweden

    If you have married abroad, you must present a certificate to the Swedish Tax Agency that the wedding has taken place. If the Swedish Tax Agency decides that the marriage is valid in Sweden, it is registered in the civil registry.
