The Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad represents the Swedish Government in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan is Alexandra Berg von Linde.
Sweden recognized Pakistan in 1947. The countries established formal diplomatic relations in October 1949. The overall mission of the Embassy is to strengthen and broaden the bilateral relationship between Sweden and Pakistan in a range of different areas. The Embassy has a mission to promote political contacts and dialogue, support Swedish trade and investment and is responsible for promoting cultural exchange, people-to-people contacts and spreading information about Sweden in Pakistan.
Within the area of trade and economic cooperation the Embassy provides a platform for the Swedish business community present in Pakistan and works to promote business opportunities for Swedish companies in Pakistan. It also supports Swedish companies in select business related matters and can give initial guidance to Swedish companies looking to establish themselves in Pakistan.
The Embassy provides consular services to Swedish citizens living in or visiting Pakistan, including assistance in emergency situations and guidance on consular matters. Swedish citizens who reside in or are visiting Pakistan are encouraged to register on the Embassy's list of Swedes in Pakistan, svensklistan. Pakistani citizens and residents may apply for a short-stay Schengen visa (up to 90 days) in Islamabad through the external service provider VFS Global. Further details are available on the website of the Swedish Migration Agency.
Around 30 people work at the Embassy, of which four are sent out from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and one is sent out from the Swedish Migration Agency. In addition, there is also a Swedish honorary consulate in Lahore and Karachi.
Through its work, the Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad contributes to a strong, constructive, and forward-looking partnership between Sweden and Pakistan.
