About Business Sweden

Business Sweden helps Swedish companies scale globally through market insights, strategic engagement with the public and private sector, and through its extensive global network. It also strives to attract foreign direct investments to Sweden.

The Philippines stands out as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, offering significant opportunities for Swedish companies across transportation, mining, healthcare, energy, and manufacturing. Often recognized as a dynamic emerging market, the country is driven by a rapidly expanding middle class, a young and English-speaking workforce, and sustained investments in large-scale development projects.

With strong economic momentum, the Philippines has become an attractive market for Swedish enterprises. Today, around 70 Swedish companies operate successfully in the country, leveraging its growth trajectory to expand their regional and global footprint.

Opportunities for Swedish companies

Economic growth in the Philippines is centered on Manila, but the growth momentum is spreading across the country, led by emerging hubs like Clark, Davao, and Cebu. The government is also actively driving transformative investments in mass transport, digital infrastructure, and energy (with a strong push toward renewable solution) to unlock regional growth.

At the same time, the Philippines is expanding its network of more than 420 economic zones, creating highly competitive, business-friendly environments. These zones offer prime opportunities for foreign companies — especially in manufacturing, logistics, and professional services — to establish operations and tap into the country’s rich natural and human resource assets.

 Possible challenges

While the Philippines’ strong economic growth presents abundant opportunities, Swedish companies often face challenges navigating bureaucracy. The tax system, regulatory red tape, and customs procedures are frequently cited as the most complex hurdles. The country is also prone to natural disasters, such as typhoons and earthquakes, which can disrupt business operations.

 How we can help

Business Sweden has been active in the Philippines since 2017, providing strategic advice across key sectors including transportation, mining, healthcare, and energy, while continuously expanding into other industries. Our team works closely with both private and public stakeholders, leveraging strong collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden and a dedicated support network to help Swedish companies navigate the market and get their business on track for sustainable growth.
