Here you will find information about civil registration in Sweden.
The Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) is responsible for managing civil registration of private individuals in Sweden, and collection of taxes.
The Swedish Tax Agency provides information for individuals and employees about moving to Sweden and living in Sweden which often means registering, and paying taxes on salary and other income.
If you are planning to live in Sweden for one year or more, in most circumstances, you should be listed in the Swedish Population Register.
When you become listed in the Swedish Population Register for the first time, the Swedish Tax Agency will assign you a personal identity number (personnummer).
A coordination number (samordningsnummer) is a unique identifier that the Swedish Tax Agency can assign to an individual who is not (and has never been) listed in the Swedish Population Register. In some cases, a coordination number may be requested on an individual’s behalf by for example a public authority or university.
If you have questions relating to civil registration or taxes in Sweden, please contact the Swedish Tax Agency.
