Coordination numbers in the United Kingdom

Swedish citizens who have never had a Swedish passport, national ID card, or been registered in Sweden need a coordination number to apply for a Swedish passport.

Applications for a coordination number are only made at the embassy in London when the intention is to also apply for a passport/national ID card.

Applications for children under 18 years

At least one parent must accompany the child to the appointment at the embassy and attend in person.

Appointments are released every Wednesday around 10am. If no appointments are available, all appointments are booked. Appointments can only be booked online – not by phone, email, or by visiting the embassy.

If you are in Sweden, you can book an appointment to apply for a coordination number with the Police. Contact the Police for information on which documents are needed.

Forms to complete and bring:

1. Application form SKV 7750 (name registration)

Download the form from the Swedish Tax Agency’s website here. If the name has not already been registered, you can do this in connection with the coordination number application, or directly to the Swedish Tax Agency.

  • Children aged 12 and over must sign the name registration together with their parents.
  • Persons aged 18 and over must complete and sign the name registration themselves.

2. Verification of Swedish citizenship

3. Signed letter

Please note: You must complete the forms before visiting the embassy.

Please bring the following original documents:

  • Birth certificate showing information about both parents.
  • Mother and Baby Discharge Summary from the hospital (can be ordered from the hospital if missing). The red book is not valid.
  • Both parents' passports or another valid photo ID. Swedish parents must show a valid Swedish passport or national ID card.
  • If the applicant has another citizenship, please provide proof of this. In some cases, the embassy may require proof that you are not a citizen of another country where you have lived.
  • Marriage certificate if the parents are married.
  • If any of the parents emigrated to the UK before 1998, bring a residence permit, EUSS, or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Alternatively, bring a "Letter of non-acquisition of British citizenship" or a printout of pre-settled/settled status.

Processing time

The Swedish Tax Agency processes the application, and the processing time is approximately 10–12 weeks. The decision is communicated by the Swedish Tax Agency.

Once the coordination number application has been granted, you can book an appointment to apply for a Swedish passport.
